About Potter Steel Service
Potter Steel Service has been making jump cups since the early 1960’s when the Dartmouth Rotary Club was putting on horse shows as a fundraiser and need some quality jump cups.
Mr. Elmer Potter made some in his fabricating shop for these horse shows. When word got around about their quality of them, he started selling jump cups all over the country. In 1987, Maurice and Ann took over the business continuing to improve production and update to keep up with the changes in the industry. We became the first in the USA to get Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) approval on breakaway jump cups. Today, we still get customers who tell us they still use jump cups they purchased over 25 years ago!
We have different types and depths of cups and keyhole tracks:
Plastic keyhole jump cups
Plastic keyhole jump cups made of super tough nylon. They come in 3 different depths.; 1.5” (38mm), 1” (25mm), or ¾” (20mm). All three can be flipped over to be used as a flat for a gate. They all meet USEF, USEA, and FEI requirements. They will fit most keyhole tracks on the market with a 2” on center.
Keyhole tracks
Keyhole tracks (keyhole channels) are made of high-quality G-90 galvanized steel with a smooth, consistent finish for a lifetime of use. They come in 4 feet (1.2 meters) or 5 feet (1.5 meters). Each has six sets (12) of screw holes for mounting to a wood or plastic standard fence post or wall. Don’t be fooled by inferior knockoffs made of G-20 galvanized. They will rust in a short time.
FEI-approved breakaway (safety) cups
FEI-approved breakaway (safety) cups in 2 styles, keyhole, and pin style, with three different depths: 1.5” (38mm) for the hunter, 1” (25mm)for eventing, or ¾” (20mm) for jumpers. They include an adapter and cup of choice or can be purchased separately. We are the first in the USA to have approved cups and may still be the only ones.
Pin-style jump cups
Pin-style jump cups are made of heavy gauge steel. They meet USEF and FEI requirements. They are finished in an industrial hot dip black enamel paint and come with a loose steel pin painted silver or a pin with a chain welded to it and hand riveted to the cup. The standard depth for hunters is 1.5” deep. Also available is a ¾” for jumpers, 1” for eventers, and a flat for a gate. All these style cups are sold individually.
