A Story That Might Sound Familiar

From Dover Saddlery to Potter Steel — One Barn at a Time

Stacy had been a Dover Saddlery customer for years. She trusted them the way most hunter riders trust a brand that's always been there—the catalog arrived, she ordered, the jump cups showed up, and done. No research required. No second-guessing.

When her barn started replacing aging equipment across six standards, she assumed she'd do what she always did. But the order total gave her pause. She started looking around.

A trainer at her barn mentioned Potter Steel Service, LLC. A Massachusetts company, which has been making jump cups since the early 1960s, ships direct.

Stacy felt skeptical, as anyone does when asked to trust something new that affects a horse's safety. She looked them up. She read through the product pages. She noticed the nylon keyhole pinless jump cups met USEF depth requirements—1.5 inches for hunters, the same spec she'd always used. She saw the FEI-approved breakaway cups, the kind now required on all spread obstacles at USEF-recognized shows. She found the reviews, including one from a customer who'd been buying from Potter Steel for thirty years.

She made the call. The cups arrived quickly, fit her keyhole tracks without issue, and performed exactly the way they were supposed to—quiet, consistent, and no fuss. Her course looked the same. Her horses went the same. The only thing that changed was what she paid and who she paid it to. She hasn't ordered jump cups anywhere else since. Three bulk orders in, she's become the person at her barn who tells other trainers to make the call.

This story reflects the experience of many Potter Steel customers making the switch from larger equestrian retailers.

These are top quality, reversible jump cups. I ordered 22 the first time I ordered and liked them so much, I ordered again. I would also like to add that the customer service was outstanding as there was a problem with UPS that the owner immediately dealt with at no cost to me. I will definitely continue to do business with Potter Steel.

Designation

I recently placed an order from Potter Steel. I had read about them when I was looking for keyhole tracks, and their name came up several times. I contacted them and very promptly received an answer with a very reasonable quote that included jump cups. This was about 9 months ago. I wasn’t able to order them, but when I contacted them again, they still honored the invoice price. I received the cups and keyhole tract quickly and was extremely pleased with the quality of the jump cups, heavy-duty and durable. Best of all, made in the USA! I highly recommend Potter Steel for jump cups and keyhole tracks!
